About Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble! (SNES)

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble! is a platform game developed by Rare and published by Nintendo for the SNES in 1996. Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong have vanished on holiday in the Northern Kremisphere, so Dixie Kong sets out to find them - babysitting her enormous toddler cousin Kiddy Kong along the way. Behind the kidnapping stands Baron K. Roolenstein, King K. Rool in a mad-scientist persona, hiding in the lost world of Krematoa.

The final SNES entry in the trilogy trades jungles for lakes, mills, and snow-capped mountains, and leans into exploration with an open world map, trading quests with the Brothers Bear, and one of the series’ best secret hunts.

Detailed Gameplay

Dixie and Kiddy form another contrasting duo: Dixie floats with her ponytail, while the super-strong Kiddy smashes cracked floors and can skip across water when thrown correctly. Regions are explored from a navigable world map with boats earned from Funky Kong.

The Kong Duo

  • Dixie’s helicopter spin slows falls and crosses long gaps safely
  • Kiddy is heavy and strong - his throws break weak floors and defeat sturdy enemies
  • Throw your partner to reach bonus barrels and high ledges, as in the previous game
  • Kiddy’s water bounce lets skilled players skim across lakes to secret areas

The Northern Kremisphere

  • Explore seven regions, from Lake Orangatanga and Kremwood Forest to the factories of Mekanos and the cliffs of Razor Ridge
  • Rent and upgrade boats from Funky Kong to sail farther across the world map
  • Trade items with the Brothers Bear in a long chain that ends with a Banana Bird
  • Find the lost world of Krematoa by circling the mysterious rocks in the lake

Secrets and Collectibles

  • Rescue 15 Banana Birds hidden in caves and mini-games across the map
  • Every level hides a DK Coin, guarded by the shield-wielding Koin - defeat him with a steel keg
  • Bonus barrels earn Bonus Coins that pay Wrinkly and Swanky for prizes and hints
  • Ellie the elephant headlines the animal buddies, joined by Enguarde, Squawks, Squitter, and Parry

Bosses and the Baron

  • Battle Belcha, Arich, Squirt, KAOS the robot, Bleak, and Barbos across the regions
  • The KAOS robot hides a secret - K. Rool himself has been pulling the strings
  • The final chase leads into Krematoa and a submarine showdown with Baron K. Roolenstein

Game Highlights

  • Explorable World Map: Sail between regions and solve a bear-to-bear trading chain.
  • Dixie and Kiddy: A light floater and a powerhouse toddler make a charming team.
  • Banana Birds: Fifteen hidden birds gate the game’s true ending sequence.
  • Lost World Krematoa: A secret region with the toughest stages and the real finale.

Tips and Strategies to Win
