Duck Hunt

About Duck Hunt (NES)
Duck Hunt is a light-gun shooter developed and published by Nintendo for the NES, released in 1984 in Japan and 1985 in North America as a launch title bundled with the Zapper light gun. Ducks fly across a painted countryside while a trusty hunting dog flushes them out and retrieves your hits - and mercilessly laughs at your misses.
With the Zapper pointed at the screen, it turned living rooms into shooting galleries and became one of the best-selling NES games ever. An arcade version called Vs. Duck Hunt added a bonus round, but the NES version is the one the world remembers. In the browser, the mouse takes the Zapper’s place, but the tension of those three precious shots is exactly the same.
Detailed Gameplay
Ducks launch from the grass one or two at a time and arc across the sky. You get three shots per round of targets; hit enough of them and you advance to faster, trickier rounds. Miss too many and the game ends.
Three Game Modes
- Game A: One duck at a time - the classic hunt
- Game B: Two ducks at once for double the chaos
- Game C: Clay pigeons launched in pairs, smaller and faster than ducks
The Zapper and Your Aim
- The original Zapper detected hits from the flash on the TV screen
- In the browser, click with the mouse to fire at your target
- Ducks speed up and fly more erratically with every round
Rounds and Scoring
- Each round presents 10 targets, and you must hit a minimum number to advance
- Hit all 10 targets in a round for a perfect-round bonus
- The required hits rise as rounds progress and the targets fly faster and more erratically
The Dog
- Your hunting dog flushes the ducks and proudly retrieves every hit
- Miss everything and he pops up laughing at you - an icon of gaming mockery
- Rounds keep coming until you fail to meet the hit quota

Tips and Strategies to Win
Ducks are faster than they look - lead your shots. - Aim slightly ahead of flying ducks, especially in later rounds. - In Game B, down one duck quickly, then track the second - do not split your attention. - Clay pigeons in Game C are small; wait for them to separate before firing. - Stay calm when the dog laughs - tilting only makes the next round worse. - In Game C, the second clay pigeon often mirrors the first - anticipate its arc. - Take the shot the moment a duck levels out; crossing shots are the hardest to land.
