About Golden Sun (GBA)

Golden Sun is a role-playing game developed by Camelot Software Planning and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance in 2001. In the world of Weyard, the ancient power of Alchemy is sealed away, and the four elemental lighthouses stand dark. When thieves steal the Elemental Stars from Sol Sanctum and Mt. Aleph erupts, young Venus Adept Isaac and his friends Garet, Ivan, and Mia chase the villains across the continent to stop the lighthouses from being lit and Alchemy unleashed.

Famous for pushing the GBA with sweeping, rotating battle visuals and a world where magic solves puzzles outside combat too, Golden Sun became the handheld’s defining RPG - and its story continues directly in Golden Sun: The Lost Age.

Detailed Gameplay

Explore towns, dungeons, and a large world map in classic RPG style, with turn-based battles that show off the GBA. Outside battle, Psynergy - this world’s magic - moves pillars, reads minds, and freezes puddles, making dungeons true puzzle boxes.

Psynergy Everywhere

  • Use Move to shift pillars and statues, Frost to freeze puddles into pillars, and Growth to climb vines
  • Mind Read extracts secrets and humor from nearly every person and animal in Weyard
  • Reveal, Halt, Catch, and Whirlwind open hidden paths in dungeons and towns
  • Psynergy points refill by walking, so field magic is free to experiment with

Djinn and Classes

  • Find elemental Djinn hiding in towns, dungeons, and across the world map
  • Set Djinn to Adepts to change their class and stats - Venus Djinn on Isaac make him a stronger warrior
  • Unleash Djinn in battle for powerful attacks, then fire them into spectacular summons
  • Mixing Djinn across elements creates hybrid classes with entirely new Psynergy lists

The Party of Adepts

  • Isaac, the silent Venus Adept leader, and Garet, his loyal Mars Adept best friend
  • Ivan, a young Jupiter Adept who reads minds, joins in Vault; Mia, a Mercury healer, joins in Imil
  • Each Adept’s element shapes their spells, weapons, and Djinn affinities
  • Weapons can unleash special attacks of their own, from the Gaia Blade to the Sol Blade’s rivals

The Lighthouse Quest

  • Chase Saturos and Menardi of the Prox clan, who stole the Elemental Stars
  • Climb Mercury Lighthouse and Venus Lighthouse, solving Psynergy puzzles floor by floor
  • Battle Saturos and Menardi, then face the fused Fusion Dragon atop Venus Lighthouse
  • The ending flows straight into The Lost Age - save your clear data for bonuses

Game Highlights

  • Psynergy Puzzles: Magic is your tool kit in dungeons, not just your weapon in battle.
  • Djinn System: Collect, set, and unleash elemental spirits to reshape classes and summons.
  • GBA Spectacle: Rotating, zooming battle scenes that showed off the new handheld.
  • Two-Part Epic: A cliffhanger quest continued in The Lost Age with your save data.

Tips and Strategies to Win

Djinn management wins more fights than raw levels. - Hunt every Djinn before each lighthouse - missing one weakens your whole endgame. - Keep at least one Adept set as a healer class; Mia with Mercury Djinn is a lifeline. - Unleash all Djinn, then summon in the same boss fight for devastating damage turns. - Use Mind Read in every town - clues, jokes, and hidden foreshadowing are everywhere. - Against the Fusion Dragon, keep Wish healing up and revive Djinn between summons.
