Mega Man 6

About Mega Man 6 (NES)
Mega Man 6 is an action platformer developed by Capcom for the NES, released in Japan in 1993 and in North America in 1994. It was the last Mega Man game on the NES, closing the 8-bit series before the move to newer hardware. A year after the events of Mega Man 5, wealthy sponsor Mr. X hosts the First Annual Robot Tournament - then seizes control of the eight finalist robots and announces his plan for world domination.
The headline addition is fusion: Mega Man combines with his dog Rush to form the Jet adapter for flight and the Power adapter for smashing strength. With stages spanning a Wild West sunset to a feudal Japanese castle, it is a colorful send-off for the NES era.
Detailed Gameplay
Tackle the eight tournament robots in any order, earn their weapons, and follow the weakness cycle. Several stages hide alternate exits that lead to the true boss rooms and the letters needed to unlock Beat.
Rush Adapters
- Jet Mega Man fuses with Rush to fly for a short burst - reach high routes and skip pits
- Power Mega Man trades range for huge punches that smash cracked blocks and heavy enemies
- Adapters replace the old Rush Coil and Jet items and are earned from Flame Man and Plant Man
- You cannot slide while adapted, so swap back to normal armor for tight gaps
Eight Tournament Robots
- Blizzard Man, Wind Man, Flame Man, and Plant Man represent their home countries
- Tomahawk Man, Yamato Man, Knight Man, and Centaur Man complete the bracket
- Weapons include Blizzard Attack, Wind Storm, Flame Blast, Plant Barrier, Silver Tomahawk, Yamato Spear, Knight Crush, and Centaur Flash
- Knight Man falls to Yamato Spear; Tomahawk Man hates Plant Barrier - the cycle rewards experimentation
Hidden Paths and Beat
- Four stages hide a second boss door behind breakable blocks or alternate routes
- Beating the real boss in those stages awards the letters B, E, A, and T
- Collect all four to unlock Beat, who dives at enemies automatically
- Secret routes also hide Energy Tanks and extra lives for the castles
Mr. X and Wily
- Clear the eight robots to storm Mr. X’s fortress, a four-stage gauntlet
- Mr. X is revealed as Dr. Wily in disguise, opening the usual Wily castle finale
- A boss rush and multi-form Wily machine and capsule fights end the NES saga
- Energy Balancer, found in Tomahawk Man’s stage, auto-refills your lowest weapon
