About Pokemon FireRed Version (Game Boy Advance)
Pokemon FireRed Version is a role-playing game developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo and The Pokemon Company for the Game Boy Advance in 2004. It is a loving remake of the original 1996 Pokemon Red, rebuilt with the third generation’s graphics, mechanics and wireless play. In the Kanto region you play as Red or Leaf, leaving Pallet Town with a first Pokemon from Professor Oak to complete the Pokedex, win eight Gym Badges and thwart the criminal Team Rocket and its boss, Giovanni.
FireRed is how a generation discovered — or rediscovered — where Pokemon began. Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle lead the original 151, the Elite Four wait at Indigo Plateau, and after the credits a whole new chapter opens in the Sevii Islands, with Johto Pokemon and a second Team Rocket plot.
Detailed Gameplay
The structure is the series’ beloved foundation: explore routes and caves, catch and train a team of six, challenge each town’s Gym and grow stronger all the way to the Pokemon League.
Catching and Battling
- The original 151: From Caterpie on Route 2 to Mewtwo in Cerulean Cave, every first-generation Pokemon is here.
- Modern mechanics: Held items, abilities, natures, double battles and a rebalanced type chart update the 1996 battles.
- The Vs. Seeker: Rematch Trainers you have already beaten — the best money and experience source in Kanto.
Kanto and the Sevii Islands
Badges from Brock in Pewter City through Giovanni’s own Gym in Viridian City open the road to Victory Road and the Elite Four: Lorelei, Bruno, Agatha and Lance, followed by your rival as Champion. Beating them unlocks the Sevii Islands quest across One to Seven Island, where Team Rocket’s last warehouse, the Ruby and Sapphire gemstones, roaming Johto Pokemon and the Trainer Tower await — plus stronger Elite Four rematches with updated teams.
Game Highlights
- A faithful, beautiful remake: Kanto redrawn in colour with new music arrangements and animated touches.
- The original 151: The complete first Pokedex, including Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres and Mewtwo to hunt down.
- Sevii Islands post-game: A full extra region with new story, Johto Pokemon and tougher rematches.

- B Button: Cancel or back out; hold while moving to run after receiving the Running Shoes in Pewter City.

Tips and Strategies to Win
Kanto’s Gym order is fixed, so a little foresight about types saves a lot of grinding.
- Choose Bulbasaur for the easiest start: it handles Brock and Misty, the first two Gyms, almost single-handedly, while Charmander makes the early game a real challenge.
- Catch a Pikachu in Viridian Forest and an Abra near Cerulean City. Raichu covers Water and Flying types, and Alakazam is one of the strongest Pokemon in the game.
- Buy the Magikarp on Route 4 only if patient — it evolves into the devastating Gyarados at level 20 and carries teams through the mid-game.
- Before the Elite Four, stock up on Revives and Full Restores, save inside Indigo Plateau, and bring Ice-type moves for Lance’s dragons and coverage for your rival’s varied team.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Can I catch Mew in Pokemon FireRed? A: Not through normal play. Mew was only distributed at real-world events for this generation.
Q: Which roaming legendary do I get after the Elite Four? A: It depends on your starter: choose Bulbasaur and Entei roams Kanto, Charmander brings Suicune, and Squirtle brings Raikou. It appears at level 50 and flees quickly, so the Master Ball or a trapping move helps.
Q: Can I play Pokemon FireRed Version online for free? A: Yes. Pokemon FireRed Version is playable in your browser on RiveGame with no downloads or installation — just open the game page and start playing.
