About Streets of Rage 3 (Sega Genesis)
Streets of Rage 3 is a side-scrolling beat ‘em up developed and published by Sega for the Sega Genesis in 1994. It is the final entry in Sega’s celebrated trilogy and the fastest, most technically ambitious of the three, with branching choices and multiple endings. When you play Streets of Rage 3 online, you get the peak of 16-bit brawling, complete with hidden playable characters like the kangaroo Roo.
Mr. X and his Syndicate have returned, replacing city leaders with robot duplicates and planting Rakushin bombs across Wood Oak City. Axel Stone, Blaze Fielding, and Eddie “Skate” Hunter reunite, joined by the cyborg Dr. Zan, who defected from the Syndicate. Together they must fight through factories, nightclubs, and construction sites to expose the plot - and the ending you receive depends on how quickly and wisely you act in the final stages.
Detailed Gameplay
Up to two players brawl through seven stages of street fighting, grabbing pipes, knives, and food to survive waves of punks, ninjas, bikers, and robots. Combat is far deeper than in the first two games.
Faster Combat and New Moves
Every character can now run by double-tapping left or right, roll vertically up and down the plane, and perform upgraded Blitz special moves that improve as you earn stars by scoring points without dying. Weapons have their own special attacks, and Zan turns every weapon he holds into an energy ball, while Skate’s speed and Axel’s Dragon Wing combo keep each fighter distinct.
Branching Paths and Multiple Endings
Your choices and performance change the story. Whether you rescue the General in time, how you handle the final countdown, and which route you take produces four different endings. Hidden fighters Roo and Shiva can be unlocked, and the Japanese version, Bare Knuckle III, is famously more forgiving - the Western release increased enemy damage, making this one of the hardest brawlers on Genesis.
