Super C is Konami's explosive NES run-and-gun sequel, sending Bill and Lance through eight brutal stages of soldiers, vehicles, alien forces, and huge bosses.

About Super C (NES)

Super C is a run-and-gun action game developed and published by Konami. It reached arcades as Super Contra in 1988 and came to the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990 in North America. It is the sequel to Contra, and it keeps the series formula of fast movement, spread weapons, and screen-filling boss fights.

You play as commandos Bill Rizer and Lance Bean, sent to stop a new alien invasion after the events of the first game. The NES version is famous for its punishing difficulty, memorable top-down stages, and the thrill of surviving a level with almost no health left.

Detailed Gameplay

Super C mixes side-scrolling action with top-down levels. You run, jump, and shoot through enemy forces while collecting weapon upgrades and avoiding instant-death hazards.

Run-and-Gun Combat

  • Move and shoot in eight directions while running through enemy lines.
  • Jump over bullets, pits, and barriers, and use platforms to reach safer ground.
  • Collect flying weapon capsules to upgrade your rifle into spread shots, lasers, and other guns.
  • Keep your weapon after taking a hit when possible, since losing the spread shot makes later sections much harder.

Stage Variety

  • Fight through jungle, military base, and alien stronghold stages with different layouts and traps.
  • Switch to top-down stages where you move freely across the screen and dodge attacks from all sides.
  • Ride and destroy enemy vehicles, turrets, and fortified positions.
  • Face a large boss at the end of most stages, each with its own attack pattern.

Two-Player Cooperative Play

  • Play solo or team up with a second player as Bill and Lance.
  • Cover different angles in co-op so one player can focus on ground troops while the other hits turrets.
  • Revive your run quickly after losing a life and jump back into the action.
  • Learn boss patterns together, because coordinated fire clears bosses far faster than solo shots.

Game Highlights

  • Classic Contra action: Fast shooting, tight jumps, and relentless enemy waves.
  • Top-down variety: Overhead stages break up the side-scrolling levels in a fresh way.
  • Iconic weapon upgrades: The spread gun remains one of the most satisfying power-ups on NES.
  • Brutal boss fights: Huge machines and alien creatures test reflexes and pattern memory.

Controls

Use the NES controller to run, aim, and jump through enemy fire.

  • D-Pad: Move left or right, crouch, and aim up or diagonally.
  • A: Jump.
  • B: Shoot your weapon.
  • Start: Pause the game or confirm on menus.
  • Select: Choose one-player or two-player mode on the title screen.

Tips and Strategies to Win

Super C rewards patience, memory, and careful positioning more than rushing forward.

  • Hold the spread gun whenever you can, because it covers wide areas and kills groups quickly.
  • Move in short bursts and stop to clear turrets before advancing into open ground.
  • Learn each boss pattern before attacking aggressively, since many bosses punish blind rushes.
  • In top-down stages, keep moving in circles around enemies instead of standing still to aim.
  • Save your jumps for gaps and incoming fire, and avoid jumping into bullets from above.
