About Street Fighter II Turbo (SNES)
Street Fighter II Turbo is a fighting game developed and published by Capcom. The arcade version, Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting, arrived in 1992 as the faster, sharper evolution of the worldwide phenomenon, and the SNES conversion followed in 1993. Twelve fighters from eight countries enter M. Bison’s World Warrior tournament, each chasing a personal ending.
The Turbo edition mattered because speed changed everything. Matches became frantic, new special moves opened up fresh strategies, and the formerly unplayable bosses — Balrog, Vega, Sagat and M. Bison — joined the playable roster.
Detailed Gameplay
Every match is a best-of-three rounds duel. Drain your opponent’s health bar with punches, kicks, throws and special moves before the timer runs out, and block by holding away from your attacker.
The Roster and Their Styles
- All-rounders: Ryu and Ken mix Hadouken fireballs, Shoryuken dragon punches and Hurricane Kicks — easy to learn, hard to master.
- Charge fighters: Guile, Chun-Li, E. Honda and Blanka hold back or down to store power, then unleash Sonic Booms, Lightning Kicks and rolling attacks.
- Grapplers and reach: Zangief wins up close with his Spinning Piledriver, while Dhalsim attacks from half a screen away with stretching limbs and Yoga Fire.
- The four bosses: Balrog’s rush punches, Vega’s wall dives, Sagat’s Tiger shots and M. Bison’s Psycho Crusher are all playable here.
Turbo Speed and Modes
Turbo’s signature is adjustable game speed: raise the stars and the whole fight accelerates, rewarding fast reactions and air juggles with moves like Chun-Li’s Spinning Bird Kick performed in mid-air. In single player you climb the ladder, face the four bosses and watch your character’s ending. Versus mode lets two players settle things locally, with handicap options to keep rematches fair.
Game Highlights
- Twelve playable fighters: The full roster including all four Shadaloo bosses, each with unique moves and endings.
- Turbo speed settings: Dial the pace from methodical to lightning-fast to suit your reflexes.
- Faithful arcade feel: The SNES port keeps the combos, voices and stages that defined a generation of fighting games.
- Endless versus play: Simple to pick up, deep enough for years of rematches between friends.

The SNES pad gives each fighter six attacks, just like the arcade cabinet.

Tips and Strategies to Win
Turbo speed punishes button-mashing — a small, reliable game plan wins far more rounds.
- Learn one anti-air move, such as Ryu’s Shoryuken or Guile’s Flash Kick, and use it every time an opponent jumps at you. Easy jump-ins are the biggest beginner mistake to punish.
- Throw fireballs to control space, then vary the speed: a slow Hadouken followed by a fast one traps opponents who try to jump the first.
- Block low by default and switch to standing block against jumping and overhead attacks; most heavy damage starts with an unblocked jump-in combo.
- With charge characters, stay crouched holding down-back. You stay blocking while charging both your projectile and your anti-air at once.
